Marathon Fundraising Opportunity for Saturday

Dear Parents and Rowers,

We were given the opportunity last night to help with set up for a marathon on Sunday. Set up would be Saturday, Sept. 17th from 3:30-6:00 p.m. We need 5-10 people. We know many of you are doing the carwash on Saturday, but we wanted to get this opportunity out there. This is a general fundraiser and will go towards boathouse maintenance. If any of you are interested in helping, please refer to the sign up below.

Week of September 11th

First of all a big thank you to all that helped out at our open house. Despite the rain it was a successful day! Also a congratulations to our rowers that competed in the Grand Rapids Marathon—great job Rams! We would also like to congratulate four of our rowers that made the academic honor roll for the Midwest Scholastic Rowing Association–James Anderson, Kirsten Brinkmeier, Samantha Hintz, and Cammi Perini. (They have three of you listed as being from Rockford, IL and we have e-mailed to correct that!) These four received the All-Midwest Academic Athlete Award — what a great honor! All current juniors can apply for this award. The link is below.

Saturday is our first fall fundraiser that goes towards our fall regattas! Reminder, each rower needs to participate in two out of the three. If you do not wish to participate, you can pay the $80 buyout. Middle schoolers are always welcome and we love your help, however they do not need to pay the buyout fee. There will be two 3 hour shifts 11-2 p.m. and 2-5 p.m. If you would like to attend both shifts, it can count towards two of the fundraisers. Needed are: Buckets, sponges, towels, hoses (several to hook up to building and across parking lot) and spray models and a y-connector. The Rockford Rowing Trailer will also be on site to help showcase our sport and attract people to us. The car wash will be held on the corner of Plainfield and East Beltline, by the Mr. Burger, in the parking lot of the Pools Plus and Comp Renew. Please refer to the sign up genius below to let us know your preferred shift and what you are able to bring with you. We need equal numbers at both shifts, so please sign up for the one with the least present.

Our monthly booster meeting will be held on Tuesday at the Rockford Freshman Center at 7:00 p.m. in room 151. We hope to see you there. This is a great way to stay informed! The agenda is attached.

Looking ahead: Our next regatta is Frogtown in Toledo, OH on September
. If you have not yet, familiarize yourself with regatta central. For this particular regatta, you can go to From there, up at the top click on "regattas" and scroll until you see "Frogtown." Click on that and you will be taken to the home page for that regatta. From there, you can navigate through the links on the side bar to find out entries, event list, heat sheet (once the race is closer) and hotel/lodging information in the area. It is a great resource!

Handy Information: If you have recently joined, or have misplaced an e-mail, our website is a great resource!–under "Parent Information" is a recent e-mails link. This will bring up all of the recent e-mails that have been sent. There is also information under the "new or interested in rowing" tab on what to bring to practice and what to bring to regattas!

Reminder: If you have not done so, please fill out the Rockford Volunteer link. Because of the high level of parental participation at regattas, etc…we are asking that all parents do this. If you have already done one for one of the schools, you do not need to do another. One covers everything.

Thank you and have a great week!

Dates for Your Calendar

Dear Parents and Rowers,

We are looking forward to our open house on September 10th at the Boathouse from 12-4. We are excited to showcase our boathouse and our program. To do this, we need a little help. Below is a link to a sign up genius with sign ups for grill masters, set up and clean up help. If you are able to assist, please let us know. We are also hoping for a good turn out of athletes to give tours and take family and community members out on boats. It’s a fun afternoon!

Also, please mark your calendar for our first fundraiser, a car wash, on September 17th. This will be in the Comp Renew Parking lot (next to Mr. Burger) at the Northland Drive/Plainfield intersection. The time will be from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. As it gets closer, we will create a sign up genius with two shifts, an 11-2 p.m. shift and a 2:00-5:00 p.m. shift, only one shift needs to be chosen. As a reminder, there will be three fundraisers this fall to help offset the cost of regattas. The other two will be pop can drives and dates for those will be Sunday afternoon, October 2nd and Sunday, October 23, also in the afternoon. Each athlete must participate in two out of the three. If you do not wish to participate, you may pay the buy out price of $80.

One last thing, we could use some help at the home football game selling ponchos and koozies on Friday, September 9th from 6-7:30. Once you’ve signed up, Matt Lausin will contact you with details. This is a general fundraiser (not for fall) and the money earned will go towards maintenance of the boathouse. Sign up genius is below.

Thanks in advance! We hope everyone had a great first day of school. Enjoy your long weekend.

E-Mail Contacts and Emergency Contact Form Link

Dear Parents and Rowers,

We are going to be streamlining the way we e-mail and we are creating distribution groups. We are hoping to start working on this soon. We are going to create a fall rowing group so that only those that are participating in fall rowing will be receiving our e-mails that pertain to fall rowing. E-mails regarding booster meetings or other events that pertain to all will continue to go out to all. If you are taking the fall off, but still want to stay in the loop regarding the regattas, etc…send me an e-mail and let me know and I’ll include you in that distribution group.

We are also going to be utilizing facebook more this year to post helpful and needed information. If you have not yet, we highly encourage you to "like" our page, Rockford Crew. If you are not on facebook, we would encourage you to create an account if only just to follow our page.

Lastly, we have heard that many are having trouble with the emergency contact form link and the volunteer link. We apologize for that. I’m including those links below.

Thank you for all that you do!

Secretary, Rockford Crew Booster Board

Important–Head of the Grand Date and Fall Rowing Forms

Dear Parents and Rowers,

We have received the date for the Head of the Grand in Lansing, MI. It will be on Saturday, October, 8 Please mark it on your calendars.

Practice begins for varsity on Monday at 3:20. All others will begin September 6th. Don’t forget your water bottle! It is mandatory that all athletes be signed up before being allowed to row. If you are planning on going to practice, but have not yet registered, please do so at Search for rowing in the search bar and all classes will come up.

***When you sign your athlete up, please take note of the links to the volunteer consent form link and the emergency contact link. Because the level of parent involvement is high, we are asking that each parent fill out a volunteer consent form. This is a new process that is done online. We also need each athlete to print out the emergency contact form and bring that with them on the first day of practice. *** If you registered without doing either these, you can easily go back to the registration page and click on the links to complete this step.

Next week, when novice begins, Coach Dilan will be at the Freshman Center with the Excursion to pick up any novice rowers who need a ride to the boathouse on the first day of practice.

Looking forward to a great season!

Boathouse Workday, Football and Healthy Recipes

Dear Parents and Rowers,

Boathouse work day is tomorrow! If you are available, please consider coming out to the boathouse from 6-8 p.m. to help.

Football fundraiser is this Friday night. We still need one more adult and four rowers.
We have gotten permission to sell Rockford Rams rain ponchos and Rockford Rams Can Koozies. Monies from this will go towards maintaining the boathouse and the boats. Time would be 6:00 p.m.-7:30/8:00 p.m. Matt Lausin will be coordinating with our volunteers and will give further detail.

RECIPES! We still need your recipes for our healthy recipe cookbook. Please send them in either to this e-mail address or to Renee Chwalek at rchwalek09

Here is the sign up genius link for helping. Also attached to this e-mail are the minutes from our August Booster Meeting.

As always, thank you for your help!

Fall Rowing Sign Ups

Dear Parents and Rowers,

Welcome to the fall 2016 fall season! Fall sign ups will be live on Monday, August 22nd; this includes, varsity/returning rowers, novice/new rowers, middle school rowers and adult rowers. To sign up, beginning August 22nd, please go to Rockford Community Ed’s sign up page,, and look for Rockford Rowing under either the Youth Recreation tab or Adult Recreation tab (for adult rowing).

Practice begins August 29th for returning/varsity rowers and on September 6th for new/novice rowers and for the middle school program. Adult Rowing will begin on September 9th. Details on times and what to bring to practice can be found under the descriptions for each class on the Rockford Community Ed site, beginning August 22nd.

Practice takes place at the Jupiter Boathouse for all age groups. For those participating in the high school rowing with practice taking place after school, typically, if there are enough upper classman drivers, the coach will help arrange carpooling amongst the rowers to the boathouse from the schools. However, this is not guaranteed and can take a few days to work out. If your rower does not drive, please have arrangements for getting him/her to the boathouse the first several days of practice. If you are not comfortable with your student riding with another student, please ensure an adult is available to transport him/her to the boathouse each day for practice.

Cost for high school rowing will be $205 this season. There will be three fundraisers to help offset the cost of the fall regattas. Athletes must either participate in two out of three of the fundraisers or pay the buy-out price of $80. The dates and times of these are to be determined. There will be three Regattas this season:

1. Frogtown, which takes place on September 24th in Toledo, Ohio

2. Head of the Grand which usually takes place mid-October in Lansing, MI (The date is not posted yet on Regatta Central.)

3. The Leelanau Chase which takes place on October 30th in Lake Leelanau, MI

If you are not already, please familiarize yourself with Details for each of these regattas will to be under the "Regattas" tab.

Because fall is considered a club sport, parents must provide transportation and housing (if necessary) for each of these regattas.

Middle School Rowing cost will be $170. Practice will take place Monday through Thursday from 6-8. If deemed safe by the coach, middle schoolers may be able to participate in the last regatta of the season, The Leelanau Chase.

Adult Rowing will take place on Friday’s September 6th through October 28th and will be from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Cost is $55.

If you have not already done so, please find us on Facebook under Rockford Crew and like our page. Updates will be posted on here. Also, please become acquainted with our website, which is currently being updated, If you have a google/gmail account, you can subscribe to the website calendar by clicking the + icon in the lower left. You’ll be able to see all of the events we have coming up on your google calendar and have a notification pop up (if one is setup for the event in the days or hours before the event) if it’s connected on your smartphone.

Last but not least, we’d like to invite you to our fall open house on September 10th from 12-4 p.m. at the Rockford Crew Boathouse. This is a great time to talk with the coaches, try out a boat (parents and siblings too!) and meet other parents and rowers. A small version of the food tent will be set up serving hot dogs and drinks for lunch. We hope to see you there!

We are looking forward to another great rowing season–Go Rams! Rockford Strong Row On!
