Rockford Crew competes in Canadian Regatta

The Rockford Crew team travelled north of the boarder to compete in the CSSRA, Canadian Secondary School Rowing Association’s 75th Anniversary Regatta.  Also referred to as the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta held in St. Catharine’s, ON (CAN) on June 3rd – 5th, 2022.   The field of 107 Rowing Clubs/Schools gathered to compete across (8) Canadian Provinces and (3) States from the USA.

The Rockford Crew joined Forest Hills Central, and Wyandotte rowing clubs to represent the great state of Michigan, while Buffalo, New York brought 5 teams, and 1 team from Nebraska to race in Canada.  The 98 Canadian teams amassed from eight of the thirteen Provinces, including: Alberta (1), British Columbia (11), Manitoba (4), New Brunswick (3), Nova Scotia (2), Ontario (67), Quebec (4), and Saskatchewan (4).

To participate in the rich history and tradition of this event is truly a reward to cap-off the spring season, and for some senior rowers to serve as the crown jewel of their rowing career.  Rockford was entered in 13 events and secured medals in three throughout the 2 days of racing.

The Men’s Jr. Ltwt 4+ boat earned a 3rd Place finish (7:05.09) with crewmembers: Pierce Guswiler, Kaden Pett, Dylan McConnell, Isaac Landis, and Coxswain – Kaelyn Peterson.

The Men’s Sr. 2- secured a 3rd Place finish (6:57.61) with rowers, Shane Johnson and Garrett Floerchinger.

The Women’s Sr. Ltwt 4+ boat earned a 2nd Place finish (7:49.36) with crewmates: Riley Peterson, Izzy Macka, Catherine Schipper, Katherine Scott, and Coxswain – Josie Dickerson.

The Men’s and Women’s Sr. 8+ boats, which is revered as the “Main-Event” race of the day, placed 2nd and 3rd respectively, in the Semi-Final heats earning them the opportunity to race in the Finals.  Ultimately, the results of the final round on Sunday placed both team’s short of the podium with 5th Place finishes.  The Rockford crew team raced hard, and for some concluded their rowing careers with a proud moment just to be considered among this class of elite rowers.

Thanks to the Rockford Rowing program, coaches, parent volunteers, and athletes for these unforgettable moments.
