Rockford Rowing Has A Strong Showing At 2024 Spring Sprints

Rockford’s girl’s and boy’s rowing teams had a strong showing this past weekend at the 2024 Spring Sprints. The annual indoor sprint hosted by Forest Hills Central is the kickoff competition of the spring season and is one of the few opportunities for the athletes to flex their individual progress made over winter and pre-season conditioning. And flex they did, despite Rockford’s smaller team in comparison to the competition, the athletes were still able to take second in overall points, have 17 of 30 athletes place top 10 in their categories, have 5 of those 17 athletes medal, and over half of the team pulled personal records.

The Rams showed their speed early in the event of Novice Men with Freshman Max Mann walking away with gold in the first race of the day. Not long after Sophomore Noah Dickerson took second in the category of Coxswain Men. The Lady Rams then showed off their strength with Senior Kaelyn Peterson dominating the Coxswain Women event, taking first. In the two most anticipated events of the day the Rams really showed off their depth and speed. In the category of Openweight Men Rockford had three athletes take top 10 placements including Senior Pierce Guswiler who took third. In the Openweight Women event four Rams made it in the top 10 and Junior Adeline Horter took second, missing first by just four tenths of a second.

Both the girl’s head coach Emma Lassig and the boy’s head coach Cam McKee felt that the event was: “An outstanding performance by all the athletes where we got to see improvements in one way or another in everyone and that is what matters most to us as coaches.”

From here the Rockford Rowers have their eyes set on a Scrimmage with Northview on 4/20 and the Grand Rapids Invitational on 4/27.
